AZZURRO

Eyes wide shut
I am surrounded
By Azzurro.
Beyond the gaze,
My sight is submerged.
Within, I see silver,
Like the fleeting flick
Of a lover’s glance.
I dive into its quiet,
Sinking in contentment,
Through the distance,
And open my eyes
At the end of the endless.

My love for blue.
Hello!
This is my first blog, and there are so many stories I want to tell and show you. I’ll start here, with my love for blue.
Last year, a friend invited us on a sailing trip along the coast of Liguria, Italy. Of course, the child in me leapt straight out of her body and into the deep blue.
We sailed from La Spezia past Cinque Terre and spent our second night in the bay of Portofino. The next morning, our eyes had the delight of San Fruttuoso for breakfast. Mamamia, what a gem.
We had to reach land by boat, and Leo fell and cracked his ribs. (Day 2.) One blue on the body out of the way, we sailed on to Camogli.
The days went by. The endless blue filled my soul, from the sky to the far edge of the horizon.
The sun scorched my skin and the Mauritian in me loved it. “Give me more,” it said to the Sun. “I can take it.”
At some point, I tasted like salt itself.

On the last morning, as we sailed in the Golfo dei Poeti for breakfast, a certain silence settled. The kind that cuts through water like a sharp blade. Breathtaking. The rock formations rose like monuments placed directly on the sea. I snorkeled around them, dodging the many medusas.
Eventually, the blues of farewell demanded that I capture these moments. These lived dreams. A life in blue, and the memories that will now live on through a few sketches and poetry.
And that’s where I’ll begin this series: with salt on my skin, sunlight in my thoughts, and a colour that keeps returning to me.
